Campaign Update: Door-Knocking
I primarily campaign by door-knocking. Of course, I want to earn your support, but an even more important reason is that I need to listen to Windham residents.
Having served on the School Board for three years, as the Town Finance Director for six and a half years and as your state representative for four years, I have learned a great deal about the town and its residents. And yet, the many conversations I had this summer while knocking on over 1,800 doors (will be over 2,100 by primary time) taught me more about the challenges, concerns and priorities of Windham residents. I need to hear your diverse perspectives to properly represent you, so thank you for taking the time to talk to me.
Several residents asked why I am not running as part of a slate with the other three incumbents, so I want to address that question here.
I simply believe that contested primaries are essential for voters to hold incumbents accountable. If the voters had been unhappy with one of us two years ago, that primary was unopposed, giving them no alternative.
This time, you have a choice. After the primary, I look forward to the four Republican primary winners working together against the uncontested Democratic slate.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of looking at your representatives' voting records. I have one unexcused missed vote this term:
HB631 (a 2025 bill) received a 17-0 Ought-To-Pass (OTP) recommendation from the Housing Committee and was placed on the consent calendar (bills that do not require floor debate).
Unfortunately, I made a mistake. After helping remove HB631 from the consent calendar so it could be debated, I lost track of the fact the bill had been scheduled for consideration at the end of the day and failed to remain in the chamber when the bill was called. I intended to support the motion to indefinitely postpone it, but I was not present to cast that vote. My vote would not have changed the outcome (motion failed 128-211), but I should have been there and made my position part of the public record.
That was my only unexcused missed vote this term - being present for every vote is a core duty of any legislator.
To continue being accountable to you as your state representative, I need your support in the September 8 primary.
