Campaign Update: Harvest Fest/Tax Revenues - Oct. 09, 2026 Windham Independent

The Windham Republican candidates will be at Harvest Fest at Griffin Park on Saturday, October 17 (12pm-3pm) - we hope to see as many of you as possible there to answer your questions about our work on your behalf.

Harvest fests traditionally celebrate the results of a long year of work - crops that sustained farmers through the winter.

In a different kind of harvest, Fiscal Year 2027 first quarter state revenue collections are $75 million above forecast, driven largely by business taxes.

This revenue growth comes after another round of Republican-supported business tax cuts, which the Democratic lawmakers opposed, decrying them as forcing the state to cut services and choke off revenue to local schools and communities.

Rep. Susan Almy (ranking Democratic member of the House Ways and Means Committee): “The legislature has been reducing state revenues (by cutting business tax and other rates) since 2016, and we reached a crisis point.”

A year later, tax revenues are above plan - the opposite of the funding shortfall she was anticipating.

Fortunately, Republicans understood that well-timed, thoughtful tax cuts create a business environment fostering higher economic growth, bringing more jobs and a higher taxable base to New Hampshire.

Meals and rooms tax collections are also above forecast, increasing funds transferred to municipalities.

Tax rates influence business and personal financial decisions. Our tax policies are in sharp contrast to every other New England state, contributing to a consistent net migration of families and businesses escaping high tax environments to come to New Hampshire.

As a former CPA and a House Finance Committee member, I take pride in the boring, unrewarding task of carefully watching over every dollar we spend… because I understand that low taxes are the result of low spending.

The upcoming budget season will be another grind - we meet 5 days a week for a couple of months to look in every nook and cranny of our budget for places where we can save money.

But it all pays off when we finally get another budget that lets you keep more of your paycheck, and attracts more productive residents and companies to New Hampshire.

As a result of long-term Republican state leadership, we are ranked as the state with the second lowest tax burden, best state to raise a family, safest state, lowest poverty rate (Table 17), and we could go on and on.

New Hampshire has been thriving because of Republican hard work and thoughtful policies. By voting for Republicans from the top to the bottom of your November 3 ballot, you can keep our state thriving, to the benefit of us all.
