Candidate letter: Energy subsidies

I deeply dislike the longstanding practice of WinDems sending anonymous political attack letters to the paper. Their “Who we are” page lists 9 people, none of which is willing to be held accountable for their claims - they all hide behind a group signature to avoid personal accountability. 

So kudos to the Democrat candidate who signed a political attack letter in last week’s paper. Gentle hint: saying “not as a political attack” just reinforces it was a political attack…  which, to be clear, is par for the course while campaigning - let’s just call a spade a spade.

The letter (page 15 of the July 17 paper) purports to respond to my Air Conditioning letter, but it doesn’t address my main point: high energy prices are a direct result of the policies Democrats vote for. 

The author admits that “Daniel is right that rising energy costs hurt families”, confirming that Democrats know that their persistent work to increase energy prices hurts families.

For the record, I never said or implied that “state legislators can’t help solve big problems”, as you can clearly see from my initial letter (page  8 of the July 10 paper). That quote is also wrong, but there is hardly any point in discussing a quote falsely attributed to me, or the ensuing straw man argument based on the made up quote.

In regards to the failed rooftop solar projects… no federal grant or state mandate is needed to complete a project that according to the letter writer would have been profitable from day one. We installed solar panels on the roof of Nesmith Library in 2022, and they are saving us money every year, even without federal grants. 

But the Fire/Police Station projects would only have been profitable if the federal government subsidized them through federal renewable energy tax credits… which means our “savings” would come from forcing taxpayers across the country to pay more in taxes to replace the tax breaks given to the tax credit buyers.  Watch the August 19, 2025 meeting of the Windham Local Energy Committee, or read this news report: https://www.nashuatelegraph.com/news/2025/08/20/expansion-of-windham-solar-system-stalled-by-loss-of-energy-credits/ 

Therefore, their “concrete solution” of providing loans is useless - the town could already get financing if investing in solar panels was actually profitable. The only way for the state to make those unprofitable projects happen is to replace the lost federal subsidies...

I will not support the state subsidizing money losing projects. If an investment is only profitable if subsidized, it is unprofitable, and should not be pursued with public funds.

When a candidate tells you outright that they want to go to Concord to get the state to make their unprofitable pet projects happen, believe them (and watch your wallet if they somehow get elected).  Subsidizing money losing investments is not leadership - it’s crony capitalism, and nobody should be subsidizing for profit corporations with taxpayer money.

I promise to keep fighting against the corporate subsidies that Democrats keep supporting in the House of Representatives. To do that, I need your support in the September 8 primary elections.
