Candidate Letter - It’s the Economy…
New Hampshire is one of the fastest growing states in the country because the Republicans control the House, Senate, and Governor’s office, and pass economic policies that benefit us all.
Our business taxes used to be significantly higher than the national average. Republicans lowered business taxes again and again, and instead of the economic Armageddon the Democrats predicted every time, business tax revenues increased and so did their share of state revenues.
Rather than provide detailed numbers here, I suggest visiting jbartlett.org for some great information on these topics - their data is taken right out of the state’s financial reporting.
Republicans finally eliminated the Interest and Dividends Tax, the last leftover of income tax our state had - starting in 2025, all of us will be income tax free. That tax is portrayed as being a tax on rich people, but the majority of filers had a tax liability of less than $500, which is tough to afford when you are a senior trying to make ends meet on a fixed income.
As opposed to that, Democrats come in two flavors: the ones that are honest about their desire to raise business taxes, bring back the Interest and Dividends Tax and broaden it to a full income or sales tax, and the ones that are not.
Republicans keep saving money in the state’s rainy day fund - the last time Democrats had control, they spent it all, leaving us with no savings.
Republicans build responsible, balanced budgets by looking at the state revenues and prioritizing spending we can afford - Democrats spend like a drunken sailor on shore leave, then come looking for more taxes to pay for their wasteful spending. Remember their $86 school lunch bill? It only got defeated by ONE vote in the House - one more Democrat in the House may have cost us all $50 million a year, just through that one bill. And they have many other bills like it, ready for next term.
Republicans work hard to keep our energy costs low, only to face calls from Democrats to make energy more expensive by mandating we pay more for green energy, by providing subsidies to energy production that would not be viable without subsidies and by simply taxing energy more.
Republicans are committed to building on and expanding on the New Hampshire Advantage, while Democrats want to make us more like Massachusetts.
On November 5, we have two choices: keep moving in the right direction under Republican leadership, or follow the many states around us that have income and sales taxes, less economic growth, excessive government spending and much less freedom.
For me, the choice is very straightforward: your vote for me and the other Republican candidates will allow us to keep making New Hampshire a better, more affordable place to live.
