Energy Prices
When we make it harder to manufacture a product, the more expensive it becomes, since the increased manufacturing cost must be passed to the consumers. This is why the attempt by the Windems letter in last week’s newspaper to explain the massive spike in energy prices (which are hurting our families and businesses so badly every day) by blaming rising natural gas prices is so puzzling.
After all, it is the Democrats policies that cause fossil fuel prices to rise. While the war in Ukraine did temporarily increase fossil fuel prices, energy prices were rising long before that war as a direct result of Democrat policies, and will continue to rise for as long as the Democrats remain in power.
The cancellation of the KeystoneXL pipeline, the cancellation of drilling leases, the Biden administration’s wide array of regulations imposed on the energy sector (increasing their costs by billions, every penny of which will be passed down to us, the consumers), each one of those (and the hundreds of other similar actions) is designed to make fossil fuel energy more expensive.
On Feb. 18 2022, Bloomberg reported that former U.S. Treasury official Mark Mazur said that a proposed gas-tax holiday: ” undercuts the administration’s climate change goals -- where really to care about fossil-fuel consumption, we don’t want lower prices for fossil-fuel buyers, we prefer higher prices.”

“We are going to get rid of fossil fuels”. “No more coal plants”. This sustained, open hostility from top elected officials toward the fossil fuel industry is discouraging investments into energy production, which makes energy more expensive. How do you get rid of a product you cannot ban outright? You make it more and more expensive every year, until using it no longer makes economic sense.
If you read the Windems letter again, each one of the bills they advocate for has one thing in common - it makes energy more expensive, which explains their criticism of the Republican Party and Governor Sununu’s actions to keep energy prices down.The Democrats need those prices to keep increasing so they can achieve their climate change goals, and the Republican efforts to keep energy affordable get in their way.
On energy prices, the choice is clear - only the New Hampshire Republicans will be doing everything they can to keep energy prices under control. If elected, I will support legislation that makes energy more affordable for our residents and businesses, so every Windham resident can still afford to live in our town.
