Legislative Update - Bills
All the committees of the New Hampshire House of Representatives are meeting, so public hearings for bills are in full swing. The House of Representatives information (calendar, bills, committee information, etc.) can be found at http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/
I am the primary sponsor of two bills (HB188 & HB516, bold in the list below, which is grouped by committee) and a co-sponsor on 14 others.
Criminal Justice and Public Safety:
HB287 - Removing testing equipment from the definition of drug paraphernalia in the controlled drug act. (Public hearing on 1/18/2023 at 12:15pm - I testified in person)
HB421 - Requiring feminine hygiene products to be provided to prisoners who menstruate in state and county correctional facilities. (Public hearing on 1/20/2023 at 11:30 a.m.)
HB593 - Relative to the forfeiture of assets in connection with a drug offense.
Education:
HB516 - Relative to freedom of speech and association at public institutions of higher education.
HB521 - Relative to the department of education payment for placement for an episode of treatment.
Election Law:
HB243 - Requiring the tabulation of votes in elections to be done in public.
HB244 - Relative to the printing of the election day checklist.
HB316 - Relative to meetings of supervisors of the checklist.
HB387 - Permitting election ballots to be viewed pursuant to a right to know request.
HB415 - Making ballots cast in elections public documents.
HB460 - Relative to eliminating voter identification exceptions.
Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs:
HB188 - Relative to the duration of physical therapy
HB238 - Relative to the role of quality control and the developmental disability service system.
HB277 - Relative to patients' right to sterilization treatment.
HB397 - Relative to the prohibition of the possession of hypodermic needles by minors (Public hearing on 1/25/2023 at 10:30 a.m.)
Judiciary:
HB647 - Relative to causes of action for individual rights (public hearing on 1/26/2023 at 2:30 p.m).
My request to be added as a co-sponsor on HB 135 - Prohibiting no-knock warrants (Criminal Justice and Public Safety), was approved by the primary sponsor (Kristina Schultz (D) - Concord), but the deadline for adding co-sponsors had passed by the time I asked. While my name is not officially on that bill, I will put the same amount of effort in supporting it as I will for the other bills above.
As you can see from the list above, my legislative work is focused on the topics I spoke about in my campaign.
