Michael
Thornton
Republican for NH House | Veteran. Neighbor. Straight Shooter.
Common sense leadership and Granite State values — no promises he can't back up, and no promises he won't honor.
From base to base to Elm Street.
Michael Thornton grew up moving around military bases with his career Army family — living everywhere from Fort Bragg to Tokyo to Berlin before eventually settling back in the states.
As a teenager he served as a Marine Corps NCO in Vietnam. After college he became a commissioned Air Force officer, and newly married, he was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California working on the Space Shuttle program.
After his military career, the Thorntons ran Computer-Fixer.com on Elm Street in Milford for six years. Bad checks, a tough economy, and competition from big box stores eventually forced them to close the doors. That firsthand experience taught them exactly what small business owners in this state are up against.
- Marine Corps NCO — Vietnam
- Commissioned Air Force officer — Space Shuttle program, Vandenberg AFB
- Six years as a Main Street small business owner in Milford
“Mike is NOT interested in making promises he can't back up — or won't honor.”
Granite solid in the community.
Since closing the shop, Mike has stayed Granite solidly active close to home — volunteering in Milford and serving with Amherst's Souhegan CERT team, the neighbors who show up when the weather, the power, or the unexpected knocks a town off balance.
Now he's running to serve Hillsborough 37, representing Amherst & Milford — bringing the same habit of showing up, listening first, and doing the work to Concord.
The job of a State Representative is exactly what the title says: to represent local people and legislate on their behalf. Not on behalf of a party boss. Not on behalf of a lobbyist. On behalf of the folks on your street.
- Volunteer in Milford
- Amherst Souhegan CERT team
- Committed to real constituent services for Amherst & Milford
What Mike will fight for.
Frugal. Independent. Focused on results you can actually measure — in your children's education and in your wallet.
Property Taxes Are Too HIGH
72% of Milford's property taxes go to our government school system. The proficiency rates that come out of this costly enterprise are all below a passing grade on any given test.
We can and must have better results to prepare our children for a far more demanding future than any we ever imagined. Education Freedom Accounts (EFAs) offer one distinct path forward — taking the burden off government schools, costing far less, and producing far better test score results, with generally fewer disruptive behaviors.
Open communication and competition will benefit our CHILDREN and our WALLETS.
Energy Availability & Costs
New Hampshire families and employers feel every spike in the electric bill. Reliable, affordable energy isn't a luxury — it's the foundation of a working household budget and a competitive state economy.
Mike is committed to policies that expand energy availability, resist cost-driving mandates, and keep the lights on and the bills down for Amherst and Milford ratepayers.
Economic Development That Keeps Pace
Having run a small business on Elm Street through a tough economy, Mike knows what regulation, red tape, and big-box competition do to a Main Street storefront.
He is committed to economic development that keeps pace with our industry — a climate where local employers can grow, hire our neighbors, and stay in the Granite State.
Frugal, Accountable Government
Every dollar the state spends is a dollar earned by somebody in Amherst or Milford. Mike is committed to frugal budgeting, transparency in how tax dollars are used, and holding government accountable for the results it produces.
Independent conservatives who read the bills, ask the hard questions, and answer to residents — not to insiders.
A slate of frugal, independent conservatives.
Mike is running to serve Hillsborough 37 alongside fellow candidates who pledge to work for ALL residents — delivering the constituent services owed to the people living in Milford & Amherst, New Hampshire.
